(via Christina Holland) This is just the worst. The Texas Doofus-in-Chief attempts to shame Wendy Davis for being a "teen mom" at 19. I know the cultural norm for first-time motherhood is shifting older and older, but come on, 19 is an adult. You can only call a 19-year-old a "teen mom" in the most pedantic sense. We're not talking about someone who struggled through high school with a toddler here. But try to follow his logic: "It is just unfortunate that she hasn’t learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance." What "own example" is he talking about? The example she set by deciding to have a child as a 19-year-old?
The following assumptions went into that statement: 1) 19 is too young to be mom. 2) Most 19-year-olds would consider having abortions. 3) It's too bad we have to prevent 19-year-olds from having abortions. In other words, Rick Perry is guilty here of accepting and tacitly endorsing abortion culture. If he truly believes that the GOAL here is to convince Americans that abortions are wrong, he shouldn't SHAME A WOMAN BECAUSE SHE CHOSE NOT TO HAVE ONE. It's too bad he hasn't learned from his own example that every sentence he utters is a rhetorical disaster.
